Board of Health approved septic variance for Lantern Hill elderly housing development.
Board of Health · Meeting of August 18, 2026
UPTON — Board of Health approved septic variance for Lantern Hill elderly housing development. The Upton board unanimously approved a variance allowing developer James Bernardino's 16-unit age-restricted project at Zero Mechanic Street to use state Title 5 septic design (150 gallons per day per 2-bedroom unit) rather than the town's standard of 110 gallons per bedroom. Chair Farrell Jolly-Parks presided as the board imposed conditions including a seven-trench system, annual pumping, emergency response within 12 to 24 hours of alarm activation, and annual water usage reporting.
Abutters Kathy Dodd and Tom Dodd raised concerns about tree clearing and system reliability during the hearing.
