UPTON — The Upton Council on Aging unanimously advanced a budget request for $26,150 in additional funding, including $22,000 for a part-time program coordinator and a $4,150 increase in operating costs, directed to the Finance Committee for the May 7 town meeting. Director Tania Paparazzo reported that a new Meals on Wheels coordinator, Mike from Hopedale, started on February 9, replacing Vice-Chair Myra Bigelow who managed the program for 10 months. The board discussed space constraints in the Elder and Social Services area and explored potential use of a $400,000 budget surplus from a completed Building Committee project to fund facilities expansion.
