Upton Cultural Council launches October scarecrow contest and advances the grant cycle. The council approved its fall programming at its July 21 meeting, setting a scarecrow contest for October 18 through November 2 with displays on the Town Common and surrounding areas. Treasurer's report showed MCC funds to be disbursed at $3,825 with $2,175 reimbursed to date; local fund balance stands at $674.96 after allocating $250 for the Historical Society's October reenactment.

The grant cycle advances with a guidelines webinar August 18 and applications opening September 1, closing October 15. Recent events funded by prior grants included a Speedway gathering drawing over 100 attendees and a McCartney concert.
